Complete IP/IK Rating Verification and Physical Stress Testing
A product's IP or IK rating on a datasheet is only as credible as the test equipment used to verify it, and ingress protection and mechanical durability testing cover meaningfully different failure modes — water and dust ingress, impact resistance, drop and shock survivability, vibration endurance, and transport packaging integrity each require purpose-built equipment rather than a single general-purpose tester.
On the ingress side, this range spans the full IP waterproof test family from light splash and spray testing (IPX1–IPX4) through immersion (IPX7/IPX8) to high-pressure jet testing (IPX9K, via the JL-9K1L and related equipment) — each IP digit corresponds to a distinct test method and severity, so equipment needs to match the specific rating being verified, not just the general "waterproof" requirement. Dedicated IEC 60335-2-42 and UL 1598 splash and spray devices address ratings tied to specific product standards where the general IP test method doesn't apply directly.
Impact resistance is covered by IK impact testers spanning IK01 through IK10 (0.14J to 20J impact energy), plus spring impact hammer calibration devices to verify the testers themselves remain in calibration — an impact tester that's drifted out of calibration produces IK ratings that don't reflect the actual standard. Vibration testing is available with CNAS/ISO 17025 accreditation, relevant wherever a test report needs to be accepted by a customer or certification body requiring accredited test data rather than in-house verification alone.
Drop, shock, and packaging testing round out the range: rotating barrel and standard drop test machines, a hydraulic vertical shock test bench, pendulum impact devices, and box/carton compression testers for transport and packaging qualification to IEC and ASTM standards — covering the handling and shipping stresses a product experiences between manufacture and end use, distinct from in-service durability testing.
Alongside the JL-series handheld and bench-mounted IP waterproof testers above, we also supply Sonacme's chamber-based rain test equipment (IPX3–IPX6), which offers enclosed, repeatable rain and spray simulation for larger enclosures and outdoor equipment housings — a complementary option where a full chamber environment suits the qualification process better than a directed spray nozzle setup.
Different IP digits correspond to genuinely different test methods — splash, spray, immersion, and high-pressure jet testing each use different equipment and procedures rather than the same machine at different settings. The right equipment depends on which specific IP rating (or range of ratings) the product needs to be verified against.
Accredited test data carries recognised validity for customers, regulators, or certification bodies that require testing performed under a formally audited quality system, rather than accepting in-house test results alone. Where a product's end customer or certification pathway requires accredited data, using accredited vibration testing avoids having to repeat the test elsewhere.
Drop testing evaluates how a product survives an actual fall from a defined height, testing the combined effect of impact orientation, packaging, and structural design. Shock testing (via a shock test bench) applies a controlled, defined shock pulse of specific magnitude and duration, isolating a more precise, repeatable mechanical stress than a real-world drop provides — the two methods are often used together rather than as substitutes.

IP and IK ratings verify different failure modes and use different rigs. LISUN's JL-series (JL-X, JL-XC, JL-9K1L, JL-UL, JL-ULX1, JL-IWJ-010) and SC-015 cover IEC 60529 water and dust ingress testing from IPX1 through IPX9K and IP5X/IP6X, including specific UL 1598 and UL 50E hosedown variants for luminaire certification — a distinct requirement from the general IEC 60529 spray tests. IK impact resistance and drop/shock testing verify mechanical robustness instead, and are typically specified alongside IP testing in enclosure and luminaire standards rather than substituting for it, since a product can be fully waterproof and still fail an impact test, or vice versa.
