Overview

A hipot (dielectric withstand) test applies a voltage well above normal operating voltage for a set time to prove that insulation will not break down. It is the most direct check of insulation strength for transformers, switchgear, cables, capacitors, insulating tools and live-line equipment such as hot sticks, gloves and bucket booms.

The MEWOI-ZD series pairs a control unit, which regulates and times the test and measures voltage and current, with a separate high-voltage test transformer. Transformers are available oil-insulated, dry-type or SF6 gas-insulated, and the control unit comes in case, bench or cabinet form across the ZD-A, ZD-M, ZD-D and ZD-P series. Ratings are built to order, typically 2–20kVA with HV outputs of 50, 100, 150 or 200kV, and both AC and DC (rectified) withstand tests are supported.
