Overview
Stake-method earth testers inject current between the electrode under test and auxiliary spikes driven into the ground, and measure the voltage drop to calculate resistance. Unlike a clamp-on tester they work on single, isolated electrodes and new installations, and the 4-wire (Wenner) arrangement measures soil resistivity for designing an earthing system before it is installed.
The range builds up in capability. The MEWOI4105A is a simple 3-terminal tester with 20/200/2000Ω ranges. The MEWOI4000 and 4000D add 2- and 3-wire testing to 2000Ω with earth voltage and 400-set memory. The MEWOI4000C and 4200D add 4-wire soil resistivity and extend the range to 30kΩ. The MEWOI4200 and 4300D combine all of these with dual-clamp (stakeless) measurement, AC leakage current to 600A and 2000-set memory. The MEWOI4250 is built for transmission towers and substations, measuring a tower's footing resistance with four clamps without disconnecting the down-leads.
