Overview
Flash point is the lowest temperature at which an oil gives off enough vapour to ignite. For transformer oil it is a safety and contamination check: a flash point that has dropped below the oil's specification usually means lighter, more volatile hydrocarbons have formed (for example from arcing or overheating) or the oil has been mixed with another fluid.
MEWOI's automatic flash point testers run the whole test without operator intervention: the sample is heated to a PID-controlled standard curve, the igniter is applied automatically, an ion-detection ring senses the flash, and the instrument corrects the result for atmospheric pressure, raises an alarm, cools and prints. A touch-screen interface replaces keypad operation, and up to 256 time-stamped results are stored with RS232 output to a PC or printer.
Two versions are offered. The MEWOI502K is the open-cup instrument, measuring to 399.9°C, designed to GB/T 267, GB/T 3536 and ASTM D92 (Cleveland open cup). The MEWOI501B is MEWOI's closed-cup version, measuring to 299.9°C with tighter repeatability. Both share the same modular main unit, so a single controller can drive interchangeable open and closed test furnaces.
