Preen BPS Series

Shore Power Supply, Container-Mounted, IP54

A ship docked at berth needs shore power that can survive the marine environment it's deployed in — salt air, high humidity, and heat — while still delivering clean, stable power to genuinely abusive electrical loads. Preen's BPS series is purpose-built for exactly this application: a high-performance shore power supply developed specifically for shipbuilding facilities, berths, and vessels, engineered to operate reliably under conditions that would degrade standard indoor power equipment.

Output power scales up to 2000kVA at 440V (L-L), with frequency handled two ways depending on model: BPS-F provides continuously adjustable 47-63Hz output for facilities needing a fixed conversion range, while BPS-V offers wide-range 45-65Hz input, suited to broader frequency-variable requirements. IP54 protection is rated as standard, housed in a customised outdoor-rated container rather than requiring a separate weatherproof enclosure to be built around a standard indoor unit — a meaningful difference for berth installations where the equipment is genuinely exposed to marine weather conditions.

Overload capability (110% for 1 hour, 150% for 1 minute) covers the load variability typical of vessel power draw, and efficiency reaches up to 92% on BPS-F models or 95% on BPS-V models. A patented power module design keeps the unit compact for its power rating while supporting easier maintenance access, and comprehensive protection — over voltage, over current, overload, input under voltage, and over temperature, each with corresponding error codes — supports fast fault diagnosis in an operational berth environment where downtime has direct cost implications.

Ships in an Outdoor-Rated Container as Standard — IP54
The BPS series is Preen's flagship container solution: a complete shore power supply built into a customized outdoor container rated to IP54 as standard, not an option. Designed for shipbuilding, berths, and ships, it operates under high humidity, heat, and corrosion exposure while delivering clean 50Hz/60Hz power to abusive loads, with 110% overload for 1 hour and 150% for 1 minute.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose BPS-F or BPS-V for a shore power installation?
BPS-F suits installations needing continuously adjustable output frequency within the 47-63Hz range from a fixed input. BPS-V is designed for wide-range 45-65Hz input flexibility, suited to facilities receiving power from a less consistent or variable-frequency source. The right choice depends on the incoming power characteristics at the specific berth or facility.
Why does the container need to be IP54-rated as standard rather than optional?
Berth and shipyard installations are inherently outdoor, marine-adjacent environments with ongoing exposure to salt air, humidity, and weather. Building IP54 protection into the standard container design, rather than as an upsell, reflects that this level of environmental protection isn't optional for the equipment to function reliably in its intended deployment.
What does the error code system actually help with operationally?
Detailed error codes for each protection function (over voltage, over current, overload, under voltage, over temperature) let maintenance staff quickly identify the specific fault condition rather than troubleshooting a generic fault indication — important at a berth or shipyard where downtime on shore power equipment directly delays vessel operations.
