400Hz Power Supply / Ground Power Unit — Laboratory & Facility Use
Aircraft electrical systems run on 400Hz power, not the 50/60Hz used almost everywhere else — meaning any equipment being tested, maintained, or qualified against aircraft electrical standards needs a dedicated 400Hz supply rather than a standard AC source. Preen's AMF series is purpose-built for this: a laboratory and facility 400Hz power supply covering hangar ground power, repair station use, and factory production testing, scaling from 500W single-phase bench units up to 400kVA three-phase facility-scale systems.
The AMF is the fixed-installation counterpart to Preen's field-deployable AMV series — where the AMV is built for outdoor, mobile ground power use, the AMF targets lab and facility environments where equipment is installed once and doesn't need trailer mounting or extreme environmental protection. Frequency is available as 400Hz fixed or 350-450Hz adjustable, covering both strict aircraft-standard testing and broader frequency-variable applications, and the unit is compliant with MIL-STD-704F, the standard governing aircraft electrical power characteristics.
A detail that matters for testing actual aircraft equipment under load: the AMF handles reverse energy generated by motor-type equipment under test (EUTs) — aircraft systems often include motors and generators that can feed energy back toward the source during testing, and a supply not designed to absorb this can be damaged or trip unexpectedly. Optional overload capability (120% for 60 minutes, 150% for 60 seconds, 200% for 15 seconds) provides margin for transient load conditions during dynamic test sequences.
